We Were Here: The Untold History of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe
We Were Here – The Untold History of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe provides an innovative exploration of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Europe through art, culture, and social history. Shot across Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, England, the Netherlands, and Brazil, the film reinterprets Renaissance masterpieces to reveal the often-overlooked presence and contributions of Africans to European society. The project also offers students the rare chance to engage directly with an artist whose work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale. For more information about the film, please visit our official website: www.wewereherethefilm.com.
We will have a movie showing (63 minutes) and discussion with the director afterwards followed by a reception in the History Lounge room 302.
